Finding a barber in a new city is easy. Finding one who understands exactly what you mean by "short on the sides, a bit of texture on top, don't touch the neckline" — in English — is harder. Astana has hundreds of barbershops, and most of them are good at one thing: a fast, sharp, Russian-speaking cut. If you're an expat, on a business trip, or here for an event at EXPO, this guide explains what men's grooming in Astana actually costs, how to get the cut you want across a language barrier, and where to book in English.

Barbershop or salon — which do you need?

Astana's barbershop scene exploded in the last decade. Most are walk-in, beard-focused, and priced low. They're a great choice if you want a quick skin fade or a hot-towel shave and you're comfortable pointing at photos.

A salon with a dedicated men's chair is the better choice when the cut itself matters most — a structured business look, longer hair on top, a cut that needs to grow out well over six weeks, or grey you'd like softened rather than covered. That's where training shows. At SuperMe, men's cuts are done by the same Toni & Guy-trained stylists who cut women's hair, using the same precision methodology you'd find in London or Dubai.

To be straightforward: we're a salon, not an old-school straight-razor barbershop. Hot-towel shaves aren't on our menu, though we do shape and outline beards. If that's what you're after, a classic barbershop is the right call. If it's the haircut that matters, read on.

Men's haircut prices in Astana (2026)

Popular Astana barbershops list men's cuts starting from about 5,000–8,000 ₸, and prices have been rising year on year. Premium salons and senior stylists charge more. Here is SuperMe's real menu, priced by stylist level:

Tell us your preferred time and the style you want — a photo helps. We confirm on WhatsApp, usually within five minutes, daily 10:00–20:00.

How to get exactly the cut you want

Most bad haircuts abroad come from vocabulary, not skill. A few habits fix almost all of it:

  • Bring two photos: one front, one side — ideally of your own hair when it was cut well. Photos cross any language gap.
  • Say the clipper numbers. "Number 2 on the sides, scissors on top" is universal. If you don't know your numbers, ask your stylist to note them for next time.
  • Define the neckline: tapered, squared, or natural. It changes how the cut grows out more than anything else.
  • Mention your schedule. If you're only in Astana for a week, say so — your stylist will cut for how it looks in five days, not five weeks.
  • Book an English-speaking stylist so you can adjust mid-cut instead of finding out at the mirror.
The difference between a good cut and a great one is usually a two-minute conversation. Have it in your own language.

Grey hair, beards and scalp care

Grey camouflage is one of the most requested men's services in Astana, and one of the least understood. It isn't hair dye. A camouflage tint softens grey so it blends rather than disappears — no hard regrowth line, no "just coloured" look. For beards it takes about 20 minutes.

Scalp peeling is worth knowing about if you live here. Astana's dry continental climate, hard water and heated winters leave many people with a flaky, tight scalp. A professional scalp peel deep-cleans and resets it; pairing it with a cut is the most popular combination on our men's menu.

For business travellers and EXPO visitors

SuperMe is a six-minute walk from EXPO and a short taxi ride from the Left Bank business hotels. Open every day, 10:00–20:00, including weekends. A few practical notes for a tight schedule:

  • Book the day before a meeting, not the morning of — it leaves time for a quick fix if needed.
  • We take Visa, Mastercard, Kaspi, and cash in tenge or US dollars.
  • Walk-ins are welcome when a chair is free, but WhatsApp is the safest way to get the stylist and time you want.
